Welcome and Hello!

My name is Cat Stiny and I have been drawing for over two decades - how much of that time was spent drawing well is a secret. I love illustrating fairytales and love stories above all else. I live for the light that can shimmer or even burn behind a person’s eyes, when they make a discovery, or have an overwhelming amount of feeling. It sounds so cliché to talk about bringing work to life - so I won’t. I love works that are unapologetically stylized and flat, all while achieving this dimension and depth of color that invites you into a new world.

I want to create characters that have character, and worlds where the impossible suddenly becomes probable.

Aside from illustrating, I love to tell stories - a talent that I hope to pass on to my children, someday. I would love to be the elegant person I sometimes picture myself to be: a gardener, effortlessly beautiful, a perfect parent, and someone who I am unashamed to be. However, this is not to be. I am a plant murderer. My parenting has its good and bad moments, my weight fluctuates up and down every five years or so, and I still sometimes sit bolt upright in bed because I’ve gone and remembered something debilitatingly embarrassing that I did over ten years ago.

To put it simply, I am like everyone else. Human and just trying the best that I can. Most of the time, being a human is more than fine - but every now and then, I like to vanish behind a book or into my studio and immerse myself in a world where I can be something more.
